Attach files to a conversation
Attaching a file gives the model something concrete to analyze — a screenshot, a spreadsheet, a log file — right inside a conversation.
Attach a file
Section titled “Attach a file”Open the attachment panel
Click the + button above the composer, then Attach files.
Add your file
Use any of three methods: click to browse and select, drag a file from your computer into the message area, or paste an image from your clipboard.
Add a prompt and send
Type a message describing what you want done with the file, then send.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”Spreadsheets with unusual internal file names
Section titled “Spreadsheets with unusual internal file names”An .xlsx, .xlsb or .ods file is a ZIP archive. Some tools write archive entries whose names are not UTF-8. Text extraction skips only an entry whose name cannot be decoded, and still reads the sheets. An edit that opens a workbook and saves it again refuses a workbook with such an entry. It returns a “malformed document” error, so the save can never drop that part without a warning.
Where attached files go
Section titled “Where attached files go”Every file you attach uploads to a shared attachments bucket automatically — you don’t configure a bucket yourself. You can browse, download or delete anything in it from the Artifacts menu; see Artifacts for bucket management and retention. By default a bucket’s files expire after 30 days, but this can be changed per bucket.
Turn attachments on for an agent
Section titled “Turn attachments on for an agent”Attaching files works in a plain conversation without any setup. If you want attachments available every time a specific agent is used, enable it on the agent itself:
- Open the agent’s edit page and go to its Configuration tab.
- Find Allow attachments under Modules and turn it on.
- Save. Attach files now appears in the + menu whenever this agent is a participant.
